From the recording Step of Faith
My dad was a farmer who loved storms and weather. As a child and later as an adult, I often found solace in cloudy or stormy weather.
Lyrics
In my red coat, my dream coat,
I wander through fields of wheat;
Like the clouds above, I feel my mind float
To somewhere safe and sweet.
As I lie down and face the sky,
The stalks of wheat bow down.
I hear the winter mind moan and sigh
Over the safe place I have found.
And when I go there in my mind,
Somehow solace comes.
A quick goodbye before the tears,
Then she walks away,
Not looking back, brave beyond her years,
Ready to face the day.
My car is parked in the lot outside,
But I need some time to mend,
So I climb in and hide inside
As it's buffeted by the wind.
And just like in my childhood field,
Somehow solace comes.
There's something in the restless wind
That's like a soothing touch;
I close my eyes and pretend
Life doesn't hurt so much.
God's love was with me in the wind,
And it's a safe place I can hide
Because he came to take my sin
And make his home inside.
When I remind myself that he is there,
Somehow solace comes.
When I remind myself that he is there,
Solace always comes.
